Bruce H. LeedsBruce Leeds, Senior Counsel

Bruce Leeds has decades of experience in international trade law and has successfully served his clients in diverse capacities, from classification and due diligence, to ITAR compliance and drawback. He has significant expertise with importing and exporting high tech products.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Bruce was an Import Specialist at the U.S. Customs Service in Los Angeles for seven years. During this period, he was promoted to Team Leader at LAX.  Bruce then joined Hughes Aircraft Company, where he worked in various positions related to import and export compliance. He went on to Hughes Space & Communications Company and The Boeing Company – all in export and import compliance positions. Bruce served on the Commercial Operations Advisory Committee to CBP and the Private Sector Advisory Group at the World Customs Organization. This webinar will be presented from the unique perspective of the former U.S. Census Bureau’s International Trade Ombudsman and Chief for the Regulations, Outreach, and Education Branch of U.S. Census, Mr. Joe A. Cortez. This session is meant to provide practitioners with the necessary tools to address export violations as they pertain to U.S. Census, Shipper’s Export Declarations and more. We will address challenges and obligations of exporters when making voluntary self-disclosures, including corrective action steps that should be taken.

Joe Cortez, Senior Trade Advisor
Braumiller Consulting Group

Joe Cortez is the former U.S. Census Bureau Trade Ombudsman and Regulations Chief. He was responsible for the staff that reviewed the voluntary disclosures. He also worked with CBP, State and the Bureau of Industry and Security to recommend actions to take based on the disclosures. His experience working with the U.S. Census’ systems such as AES and AESDirect provides a unique set of skills and insight to clients. He worked closely with many other U.S. agencies, such as Customs, BIS, U.S. Dept. of State, Department of Energy, and other regulatory export agencies. Read Joe’s full bio here.

 

Christos Linardakis, Of Counsel

Christos Linardakis is an international and corporate attorney located in Chicago. During his 30 year career, he has established corporate compliance programs in Environmental Product Compliance, Global Trade Compliance, Cybersecurity, as well as International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) compliance programs, and FCPA & Antibribery/Anticorruption Programs.
